iPad Not Charging? Check the Cable, Port and Battery Safely

A practical guide for visitors and residents in Okinawa, adapted from Smile Coating’s Japanese repair and coating advice.

Start with safe checks

If there is no swelling, heat or liquid damage, try a known-good compatible cable and power adapter. Never use a damaged cable or bent connector.

Do not scrape the charging port

Metal tools, needles or toothpicks can damage the internal contacts. Do not force a connector into a blocked port.

A fully drained battery may take time

A deeply discharged iPad may not show a charging symbol immediately. Stop if the device becomes hot, smells unusual or the screen lifts.

Intermittent charging

If charging stops when the cable moves, the port, connector or internal components may need inspection.

After water exposure

Avoid charging a wet device, particularly after saltwater exposure. Have it assessed rather than repeatedly testing power.

Repair options

A faulty battery, charging port or logic board can produce similar symptoms. Cost and turnaround depend on diagnosis and model.
